Open2.net

There is a range of useful learning material available for free on Open2.net - the online learning portal from The Open University and the BBC.

See, for example, the material on the following range of topics:

  • Immigration
    This section includes a range of resources on immigration, including an interactive map, video clips, text and various other text and on-line resources.
  • Slavery
    This set of resources considers how slavery is still very much a worldwide facet of modern life and its significance from an international development perspective.
  • Child Protection
    This set of resources looks at the history of the development of child protection provisions in the UK.

Open Learn

There is also a range of study material on Open Learn - a free online learning resource from the Open University. The site includes a range of independent-learning units, ranging from 1 hour to 10 hours in length, and at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels.

    This 10 hour advanced course focuses on how 'old age' has been socially constructed and how the identity of being an ‘old age pensioner’ developed during the twentieth century.

Oxfam Online Learning

Oxfam have an on-line learning resource which allows the comparison of dairy farmers in Wales and Jamaica. It is useful for exploring issues of global inequality, world trade, activism and globalisation.
